Mental Health Awareness Week Body Image

Mental Health Awareness Week 2019

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place between 13th-19th May 2019 and the theme focused on this year is body image. It has been running since 2001 to raise awareness of mental health problems such as stress, relationships, loneliness, sleep, alcohol and friendship.

The Mental Health Foundation offer a lot of resources and information about how you can raise awareness and run your own events. Their supporters pack can be downloaded here.

Some statistics from the Mental Health Foundation on why recognising mental health problems are so important :-

  • 68% of women and 57% of men with mental health problems are parents
  • Working people with mental health problems contribute £226m a year to the UK economy – that’s 12.1% of GDP
  • In 2017/8 mental health problems accounted for 15.4 million sick leave days in the UK
